In addition, the battle themes and the Japanese version of Lili Marlene (a famous German love song that was popular during World War II) all contributed nicely to the series and are valuable assets to the show. However, the melody of the songs suit the theme of the anime quite nicely. The OP and ED are both good although not particularly outstanding and there's a good chance you'll forget about them after a few days. All episodes seem to have highly consistent animation and of course, the DVD includes polished artwork and fanservice. In short, we see a nice blending effects from the battle animation with the regular drama scenes. The battle scenes, in particular, are extremely well made. The art and animation quality is great for the most part. The story proceeds nicely with these magical girls fighting Neuroi, but sadly the ending seem to be a bit "wishy-washy". The story revolves around a group of girls with special magical powers that allow them to equip the "Striker Units" to combat the Neuroi. Thus rather than the real WWII, this resulted in a war between Human VS Neuroi. At that time, mysterious beings known as Neuroi invaded Europe. World of Strike Witches is pretty much parallel to our world up to 1939 (before World War II). The Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs has recently openly endorsed Strike Witches as an example of cultural excellence. Strike Witches is MUCH deeper than one may expect to find from a fanservice-oriented series.

I admit it is lousy for the director to claim that girls in panties = fashion in the Strike Witches' world, but that alone is no reason to give a bad rating to an anime (if you do, I am sorry, you don't know how to rate at all). Please don't say it is bad just because you find girls in panties horrifying. There was one detail that has resulted in many fanfics becoming non-canon.*A Japanese government endorsed loli-pantsu anime.*

One note to fanfic writers: It is absolutely necessary that you watch this movie if you want to write a fanfic according to the canon universe. So anyway, to everyone who reads this, my overall score is biased because I'm a huge fan of the show.īEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL YEAR: The very end of the movie said TO BE CONTINUED!!! :D I literally jumped for joy when I saw that. I will never understand why some people hate her so much. The only exception to my statement would be that Yoshika haters may not like this movie because she gets about 75% of the screen time. (btw I didn't like the K-On movie that much even though I am a fan of the series) And if you're not a strike witches fan, why watch this, much less read this review in the first place? Most strike witches fans, however, will overlook these problems (as I did), just as how K-On fans did for the K-On movie or the Haruhi fans did for the Haruhi movie. There is one portion that is definitely a plot device (I am referring to what Sakamoto has in her possession during a battle). Certain scenes seemed like excuses just to give characters other than Yoshika screen time. It was more like a slide show of random backdrops than an animation.įrom an objective perspective, some fight scenes looked a little too easily won.

The one thing that really, and I mean REALLY, disappointed me was the ending animation. I'm sure her fans would completely disagree with me but that is my opinion. In S1 she was a b****, in S2 she was still kind of cold but better, and now she is quite likeable. Also, I don't think I've ever liked Perrine in season 1 or 2 as much as I did in the movie. The beginning starts off with a couple of nicel animated fights and it was nice to see the 501st again. It introduced land Neuroi, normal troops fighting Neuroi, introduced other witches, and did other things to expand the Strike Witches universe for people who don't have access to the semi-canon doujinshi, LN's, and manga. lolįrom the perspective of a Strike Witches fan, this movie was great. The movie trailer had me totally convinced that the main setting was Romagna.
